"Making Ice"
As the lake was making ice, her breath could be seen in the subzero air. The sea smoke is caused by evaporative cooling -- the cold air temperature and warmer open water of Lake Superior create this beautiful type of winter fog. Duluth winters are strikingly beautiful! On this particular morning, the air temperature was about 15 below zero Fahrenheit.
