"Northern Lights Lake Pictographs"<br />
<br />
These pictographs appear to be of a woodland caribou and bear, framed by vibrant lichen. They are located on a magnificent cliff on Trafalgar Bay, Northern Lights Lake, in Ontario, Canada. Pictographs of the Quetico/Superior country were created by the Ojibwe people long ago. Although their age is unknown, most were done within the last 500 years. The reddish colored pigment is derived from red ochre, a soft iron oxide which was mixed with various binders into a useable paint. This oxide actually stains the rock, giving the pictograph its longevity.
