"Split Rock Lighthouse Illumination"<br />
<br />
Split Rock Lighthouse illuminates Lake Superior’s North Shore at twilight. The lighthouse was built following the fateful Mataafa Storm of 1905, in which 29 ships were lost. It guided ships from 1910 through 1969, at which time it was retired and added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is a somber, memorable experience when the beacon reaches across the lake on November 10 in memory of those who perished with the SS Edmund Fitzgerald.
