The Great Lakes Trader and Joyce L. Van Enkevort emerged through the sea smoke wearing a heavy cloak of ice. The air temperature hovered around -10°F (-23°C), and the water temperature was comparatively warmer. This combination creates sea smoke (or steam fog) which rises gracefully from the lake's surface. This is one of our favorite winter phenomena, and is welcome reward for braving the bitter temperatures and biting breeze.
